BRIDGES, LINKS + A GATEWAY

Young Architects' Studio Competition

Fall 2010

Design Competition

Software: Sketchup (competition requirement), Photoshop, Illustrator

The first annual competition called for a design for a temporary structure (10 years) to serve as a gateway to the East face of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center while screening the existing parking lot.

This gateway extends the horizontal rhythm of the visual proportion of floors and window sills of the historic buildings of the Penn-Liberty Historic District while interlacing the organic gestures of the modern city: the sweeping forms of the bridges, the intersection of the three rivers and the roofline of the DLCC.

Temporary, the gateway would be constructed modularly and later disassembled and rebuilt into bus shelters to be installed throughout Pittsburgh.
